The Law of Process – Moses

Moses and the test of time.

Dot by dot, day by day, a staircase rises upward. Not a leap, but a routine.
Leadership Law #3

The Law of Process: Leadership develops daily, not in a day.

How did God prepare Moses to be the man who would lead the people of Israel out of Egypt? He did not do it in a single day, but over time. Not through one event, but through a process. Other leaders before Moses were also prepared for their tasks over years:

Three large arcs of time over desert dunes, a golden hand reaching the outer arc – Moses prepared by the test of time.
Three large arcs of time over desert dunes, a golden hand reaching the outer arc – Moses prepared by the test of time.
  • Noah - he waited 120 years until the predicted rain came
  • Abraham - he waited 25 years until his wife bore the promised son.
  • Joseph - he was in prison for 14 years for a crime he had not committed.
  • Job - he waited his entire life for God's justice.

God prepares leaders for their tasks over time. What God does in a leader during the waiting is far more important than the goal to be reached. Waiting matures a leader, broadens their perspective and their understanding of the world. The test of time decides whether leaders can endure seasons of seemingly unproductive preparation and whether they can recognize and seize the opportunities presented to them.
