Psalm 127 puts it plainly. Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. Wherever a leader serves, whether in the military, in business, in front of or behind a desk, it will be difficult for them to bring about lasting change on their own. The battle over strategy, market share, reputation, power, and money leads to planned and unplanned changes on their path every single day. Wise leaders don't just integrate God into their strategy, they put him at the center. He alone can provide security. Not their followers, and not all the money in the world.
The following thoughts should be considered regarding the quality of security:
- Followers cannot give a leader lasting security
- Leaders must never place their emotional stability in the hands of other people
- Spiritual and emotional security needs truth
- Leaders should know that emotionally insecure people can hurt other people
- Difficulties arise when leaders pin their security for something only God can do on people
Psalm 127
Everything Depends on God's Blessing
1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
