The more power leaders gain, the more they reveal about themselves. Power leads the heart to show its true motives.
The leaders described in Isaiah 3 reveal their true motives the moment they obtain a position of power.
Isaiah 3:14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Whether good or bad, leaders determine how the organization develops and where it ends up. That is a side effect of the Law of Navigation. God confronts the bad leaders in Isaiah 3:16ff with a clear verdict.
Leaders should be aware that they are always leading. There is no time off. There is no moment when it doesn't matter what the leader does. It's like being on a diet. It doesn't help to watch everything at the restaurant and then go home and eat a cheesecake. That won't get you to your goal. The exact same thing applies to leadership. The following thoughts help with reflecting on the Law of Navigation:
- When you know where you want to go, you gain persuasive power.
- When you have already been where you want to go, you gain credibility.
- When you can bring someone along on the way, you gain an ally.
