Good leaders know which steps are necessary to reach the goal. But how do they know that? What sets them apart from followers when it comes to the Law of Navigation? Proverbs 2:1-6 offers a clue to the answer. The desire for wisdom and understanding makes the difference. Knowing what the leader is seeking, why, and how much, makes the difference.
- What do we want?
- Why do we want it?
- How much do we want it?
The passage offers the following thoughts for reflection on the Law of Navigation:
| If ... | Then ... |
|---|---|
| Receiving the words of God (Proverbs 2:1) | Understand the fear of the LORD (Proverbs 2:5) |
| Keeping the commandments (Proverbs 2:1) | Find the knowledge of God (Proverbs 2:5) |
| Attending to wisdom (Proverbs 2:2) | Obtain wisdom (Proverbs 2:6) |
| Inclining the heart to understanding (Proverbs 2:2) | Gain knowledge (Proverbs 2:6) |
| Crying out for insight (Proverbs 2:3) | Receive understanding (Proverbs 2:6) |
| Lifting up the voice for understanding (Proverbs 2:3) | |
| Seeking wisdom like silver (Proverbs 2:4) | |
| Searching for it as for hidden treasures (Proverbs 2:4) |
Leaders who walk with God pursue wisdom as if it were pure diamonds. Is that true for you too?
Proverbs 2:1-6
Wisdom Guards from Destruction
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
