The prophet ends his book with an urgent confession of his commitment. He reaffirms his commitment to God, to his vision, and to the fate of his people. Regardless of what would happen, he trusted the process God had placed him in.
This is the attitude leaders need in order to fulfill their mission. The moment a leader steps forward with this kind of commitment, all the resources, insights, and people necessary will follow. When leaders stand this firmly behind a vision, their followers will face the coming challenges despite every circumstance.
Habakkuk lives it out. From his steps into commitment, the following thoughts can be drawn for reflection:
- Ask. Step forward and ask for God's wisdom and for his will to be done.
- Wait. Let God act. Trust his power and provision.
- Accept. Listen and receive his instructions. Be ready for change.
- Answer. Be obedient, whatever he asks of you.
- Celebrate. Praise and honor him regardless of your present circumstances.
Habakkuk 3:17-19
17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
