In Micah 6:8, God explains what he expects of people, and this applies especially to leaders. Why? Because God gives leaders the responsibility of creating an environment of righteousness. People learn to love justice and to show mercy when the leader establishes a culture of both.

Three strands – gold, white, aqua – braid into one cord: do justice, love mercy, walk humbly, as Micah 6:8 says.
Three strands – gold, white, aqua – braid into one cord: do justice, love mercy, walk humbly, as Micah 6:8 says.

The three points listed in this text define the values and character of a leader who pleases God:

  • They hold to God's word and act justly. Righteousness and integrity determine their decisions about policy and programs.
  • They practice showing love. Love for people and relational skills have a high priority.
  • They walk humbly with God. A respectful relationship with God determines their strategy and their lifestyle.
Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
